East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust is led by a Board comprising members from East Dunbartonshire Council and independent members.

Board Members

Alan Wright

Alan Wright was appointed to the EDLC Board of Directors as an independent director on the 11th October 2023. At the AGM it was agreed that Alan would be the Vice Chair of the Board.

Alan is an Associate Inspectorate of Constabulary Scotland (HMICS).

Alan has been involved in other Committees and Boards contributing at all levels. He is an active member of the Allander Leisure Centre and uses the gym and swimming facilities on a regular basis. He also travels to the Leisuredrome for fitness classes and other facilities.

Alix Mathieson

Alix was appointed to the EDLCT Board of Directors as a Partner Director in May 2022.

Craig Bell

Craig Bell was appointed to the EDLC Board of Directors as the Trade Union Representative on 21st June 2022.

Craig is the Unison ED Chair and Co-Convenor. Craig is also the Trade Union Director of ED HSCP Board and Co-Chairs for the ED HSCP Staff Forum.

Greig Russell

Greig Russell currently works for East Ayrshire Leisure as the Sport & Fitness Development Manager. He is responsible for the strategical development and operations of the organisation's 10 leisure venues, memberships, swimming development, sports development and fitness programmes.

He has an honour's degree in Leisure Management through Glasgow University and has worked within the industry since 2001 holding senior management, operational management, sport development and fitness roles for both public and private organisations.

Greig began his career as an Assistant Health Club Manager at Bowfield Hotel & Country Club before moving into the role of Leisure Officer for East Ayrshire Council. Here he has gained experience and knowledge that have successfully earned him his position today.

Greig has also been a member of the Scottish Leisure Networking group since 2007 and current sits on the executive management committee as Vice Chair.

Ian Gallagher

Ian was appointed to the EDLCT Board of Directors as a Partner Director in May 2022.

Ian is an Elected Member of East Dunbartonshire Council and currently sits on the following –

Jim Gibbons

Jim Gibbons was appointed to the EDLCT Board of Directors in June 2017 as a Partner Director.

From November 2023 Jim is the Chair of the EDLCT Board.

Jimmy Watson

On leaving Bishopbriggs High School, Jimmy studied Motor Vehicle Engineering & Management with a view to working in his father’s haulage business. On graduating he spent time backpacking and settled in Dublin, Ireland for a while where he then trained as an actor. Jimmy went on to work in theatre and film for a number of years, working in front, and behind, the camera.

In more recent years Jimmy returned to Bishopbriggs with his wife, Julie, to raise their young family. He now manages his family’s haulage company, John S L Watson Haulage (Est 1968) and Huntershill Village, a local retail/commercial retail park in Bishopbriggs where over 40 local businesses operate.

Jimmy is the current Chair of the Friends of Thomas Muir and Producer of the Thomas Muir Festival.

Lu McNair

Lu McNair was appointed to the EDLC Board of Directors as an Independent Director on the 11th of October 2023.

Lu is a Museums & Collections Manager for North Lanarkshire Council.

Lu has over 20 years’ experience in museums & galleries and has worked for 2 ALEOs as well as Councils. She has led on exhibitions, events, community engagement, collections development, local studies, visual arts, and technical teams/staff.

Sandy Marshall

Sandy was appointed to the Board as an Independent Director in January 2011 and he was subsequently appointed to the position of Vice Chairman in November 2015. Sandy served as Chair of the Board from August 2017 to October 2019.

Sandy remained in this position till May 2017 when Anne Jarvis, Chair stepped down after the Local Government Elections. Sandy became Acting Chair from May 2017. In November 2017 at the AGM Sandy was officially voted Chair and the Vice Chair Position went to Gillian Renwick, Partner Director. Sandy has over 25 years' experience in the civil service and public sector in a variety of roles, including leisure operations, quality management, human resources and organisational development. He is passionate about developing organisational and individual effectiveness, has an MBA from Strathclyde University Business School, and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Sandy enjoys spending time with his family and friends and keeping fit. He is also keen on outdoor pursuits.

Stewart MacDonald

Stewart was appointed to the EDLCT Board of Directors as a Partner Director in January 2011 and serviced as Vice Chair until November 2015.

Stewart is an Elected Member representing the Kirkintilloch East & Twechar Ward and currently sits
on the following –
