Introduction

In collaboration with East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture, St Ninians High School, Douglas Roberts - Education Consultant, Museums Galleries Scotland, and Developing the Young Workforce, this initiative seeks to engage young minds in local history and community narratives.

The project, titled "Overheard Conversations," provided S2 pupils from St Ninians High School with a unique opportunity to explore significant social history events throughout East Dunbartonshire. Through this engaging format, students were encouraged to reimagine and recreate dialogues that may have taken place during these pivotal moments in the region’s history. The initiative not only fosters historical awareness but also cultivates creativity and critical thinking among the pupils, empowering them to connect with their community's rich past.

As a result of their hard work, the pupils successfully created a series of audio conversations that bring these historical events to life. This audio compilation, paired with a collection of Local Studies photographs from our photographic collection, provides a vivid and immersive experience for listeners and viewers alike. By sharing their narratives, students have not only enhanced their understanding of local heritage but also contributed to preserving it for future generations.
