East Dunbartonshire Libraries provides a range of online information services which can be accessed free of charge in any East Dunbartonshire library, or at home by EDLC library members.

All you need is the barcode number on your library card to access the following resources:
Transparent Language Online provides a fun, effective, and engaging experience for learners of all levels looking to build their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in a foreign language.
Combining robust courses, supplemental vocabulary, and grammar resources, Transparent Language Online is the most complete language-learning system. With over 110 languages to choose from, including English for speakers of over 30 languages, there is something for every learner. Best of all, with mobile apps for iOS and Android devices, learners can enjoy the freedom to learn at home, in the library, or on the go.
An online version is available to three age-specific groups. Each version has a home page with appropriate content, features and an interface that has been developed for that age group. They provide access to thousands of articles and illustrations covering most subject areas, a dictionary and thesaurus, a world atlas, quotations, video clips, timelines, country comparisons, the year in review, online journals and news bulletins.
Three age groups:
- Britannica for ages 18 plus
- Britannica Student for ages 12-18
- Britannica Junior for ages 5-12

With up-to-date online dictionaries, thesauruses, and language reference content based on the largest language research program in the world, Oxford Dictionaries Premium is an extensive, integrated, smart-linked English language resource. It offers quick-search access to definitions of words, phrases, and idioms, with expert guidance on style, usage, grammar, and spelling; plus specialist guides for legal and technical writing.
A comprehensive reference source addressing contemporary social issues in the UK. A wide range of opinions are expressed on each issue. Sources include fact sheets, newspaper reports and features, journal and book extracts, government reports and statistics, pressure group literature and much more.
Part of the Royal Commission on the Ancient & Historical Monuments of Scotland, Scran is one of the largest educational online services in the UK, providing digital materials representing Scottish culture and history. The learning resource service hosts 360,000 images, movies and sounds from museums, galleries, archives and the media.
ScotlandsPlaces allows you to search across three national databases (Historic Environment Scotland; The National Records of Scotland; The National Library of Scotland) to access historical resources relating to places throughout Scotland. Using geographic locations, enter a place name into the search box, or select a county from the map image to refine your search.
If you are studying for the Life in the UK test or British citizenship test this site includes an online version of the latest official study materials licensed from the Home Office, plus hundreds of practice test questions in the same format as the official test.
