Bishopbriggs Library and Community Hub opened in 2018 – offering a range of services and facilities for people of all ages.

‘Quiet Times’ are being piloted at Bishopbriggs Library – offering people serene spaces to read, relax, browse or use a computer.

Libraries can sometimes be busy places – hosting school visits, craft workshops, computer classes, author talks and a range of other activities.

They offer a valuable resource at the heart of the community, but some users need a different library environment – where they can relax, browse through a book or magazine, focus on a project or use a computer.

This can be particularly valuable for people who are neurodivergent, living with anxiety or who just want a break from the hustle and bustle.

East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust is piloting ‘Quiet Times’ at Bishopbriggs Library – starting on Thursday 20 March 2025:

• Thursday morning – 10am-noon
• Saturday afternoon – noon-2pm
• Wednesday evening – 6-7.30pm.

During those times, the aim is to create a peaceful space, lowering the lighting to make for a more relaxed environment. Staff will be working on quieter tasks, turning down phones and asking users to speak softly. The library will also avoid scheduling any school bookings, workshops or activities.

If the pilot proves popular, then EDLC will explore potentially extending ‘Quiet Times’ to other libraries across East Dunbartonshire.
