About Kirkintilloch Town Hall

Kirkintilloch Town Hall & Heritage Centre is a public building and available to book for events such as festivals, conferences, weddings, parties, music rehearsal, cinema screenings, dance or drama performances and community group meetings.

The building has been rejuvenated with a major refurbishment – delivered by East Dunbartonshire Council and EDLC Trust, with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic Environment Scotland and the Scottish Government.

The original 1906 B-listed sandstone building reopened in 2018 with the addition of modern function spaces as well as offices, a reception area and a platform lift – installed to increase accessibility.

It represented a significant investment in one of this area's most iconic buildings – benefiting both Kirkintilloch and the wider East Dunbartonshire area.

Bookable facilities include the Main Hall and Lesser Hall.

The Town Hall is also home to the Made in Kirkintilloch Heritage Centre (see below).

Made in Kirkintilloch Heritage Centre

The Made in Kirkintilloch Heritage Centre is on the first floor of the Town Hall. It tells the fascinating story of Kirkintilloch’s industrial history through a permanent display. It's suitable for families, with interactive and drawing activities freely available. We also have exhibition areas which showcase collaboration between artists and local communities.

We welcome visits from schools and can provide self-led teacher resources and worksheets for pupils. Our education resource is suitable for primary three up to S1 classes and these teachers notes can help you prepare for your visit.

Did you know Kirkintilloch is rich in local history and heritage. EDLC Heritage and Arts Service are the custodians of the museum, archives and local history collections of East Dunbartonshire. If you plan to visit Our Made in Kirkintilloch Heritage Centre, why not also visit the Auld Kirk Museum to learn about the romans, local industries and working and everyday life throughout the 19th & 20th Century.

You can then visit Peel Park, a place of historical significance. The line of the Antonine Wall, which was for a period the north-western frontier of the vast Roman Empire, passes through. The Park also has links to mediaeval times when a castle was built in the 13th century by the Comyn family. It guarded one of Scotland's first Burghs of Barony, a status accorded to Kirkintilloch in the year 1211. There is also a roman play park which suitable for primary school pupils. Other objects of significance in the park are the bandstand and fountain made in Kirkintilloch by the Lion Foundry, famous for its decorative ironwork. Benefactors donated both to the people of Kirkintilloch in 1905. They now stand as a memorial to the foundry, which closed in 1984.

There is also the opportunity for you to visit Archives and Local Studies at William Patrick Library. Our friendly team will help you learn even more about East Dunbartonshire’s fascinating past.

Does this sound like a fun learning opportunity? Great! We’d love to have you. Start your class trip with a visit to our Made in Kirkintilloch Heritage Centre and we’ll help you plan the rest. It’s helpful to let us know about your visit ahead of time so we can get everything organised for you.
